Those trees are massive! I'm just hoping that people might believe that the climate has changed! Or the globe has warmed!

Stay strong and hopefully you'll be able to transition back to teaching as well as possible!

It’s still hard to comprehend that these giant trees just toppled. I think it will help to get back to the teaching schedule, especially with such fab colleagues like you!

Terrifying. I am so glad that you are all OK. Please let me know if there are any local groups that we can support.

Sending hugs and positive vibes. We lived through Hugo in NC. Lots of damage and four days without power. This one is far worse. I was chatting with a pa in FL. The new storm is bearing down on his area. The power people arriving from far away is so impressive. Congrats on your excellent post. Great work.

Thanks for your kind words. It buoys the spirits! I’m worried for Florida, especially Tampa.

I have been trying to talk my friend who lives in Sebring, Florida, to get out of FL. Milton is heading for Tampa and is now Cat 5.

I hope they evacuate--it's so strong that even the folks inland could see a lot of damage.

Me too. His wife died almost 2 years ago. He is the most intelligent person I ever hired.

Oh Emily, I'm glad that you're okay but so sorry to see the devastation. Now bracing for Milton and it's all too much.

Hey Emily! You have described the situation here in Greenville so well. I just got power back this past Saturday night and looking out my front door the road across the street from me looks like a Fortnite wall with all of the giant tree pieces (are they pieces? sections? no clue) waiting to be picked up). Yet, we are so lucky here given the abject destruction in WNC.

We should connect on LinkedIn or something!

great vivid description of September 27 events, exactly the same up here in Travelers Rest. Power finally restored Wednesday afternoon. Hope things transition back to normal soon for everyone but realize that for many thousands in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Western North Carolina/Tennessee their lives can never return to normal. Thoughts and prayers continue for them as well as all the thousands of others working to restore power and water as quickly as possible.

Write this conference paper for me that I have to somehow get done in two weeks? :) We'll be ok, but I hope the whole country realizes how bad this was to the region. This is the official North Carolina relief fund: https://pay.payitgov.com/ncdonations

The only abortion clinic in WNC was in Asheville and had to close, so people in the severe abortion ban states like SC and TN will have one less resource to access care in the meantime, so continuing to donate to abortion funds like the Palmetto State Abortion Fund and Carolina Abortion Fund could help patients get to care in Virginia and DC (and maybe Georgia, ban just lifted there.).

Actually I'm really good at writing conference papers, so that will work out just fine if you want one on gender segregated service environments or critiques of inconsistencies within sex/gender pedagogy. Otherwise it's on you.

Yikes! Another cause that needs attention. Thank you for mentioning it.

Lol well it’s on gender and translation of a Caribbean novel (Wide Sargasso Sea) so I guess I’ll have to buckle down :). Yes, spread the work about access! Thanks :)

I’ve lived in SC since I was four years old, and I never thought the Upstate and WNC could experience a weather event like this. I’m relieved you’re ok.
