Update: the judge issued the temporary injunction until the SC Supreme Court hears the case, so abortion is again legal in the state for now! Malissa and her team are rockstars!

Just now getting around to reading this one today. It's >really< good. Gotta say that while reading about another Tactical Victory in Minoritarian Legislation, a big part of that dull aching sensation I feel is rooted in my own exhaustion of having focused for years on trying to untangle from and argue down this wide-eyed bonkers mixture of Christian right resentment-patriarchy and political activism. Strong agree: it's exhausting. Especially now in the heat of social media politics, you're up against a contingent that expressly does not want to figure or sort things out — doesn't want to ever stop throwing punches and sowing chaos — because, as you know well, and as our twitter friend Andy Petrovic (who may or may not be a bot?) demonstrate at every turn, they want to control society instead of being a *part* of society. More accurately, they want to be admired by the broader society, and since that's not happening they lash out and sow chaos. We're playing a game of chess against someone who keeps swiping all the pieces off the board...and then of course they run off doing a chest-thumping victory lap on their way to Sunday services, which makes sense b/c that's where they'll hear someone tell them they're good and righteous and entitled — there and at Trump rallies.

Emily, well done again. Thank you for the work you do. And Oh My God these idiots!! I just lose it, so mad again and again. Does the guy not even realize that male sperm has something to do with the pregnancy? Even at the most basic level— he/they take no responsibility? Yes, as Terry said they want what they want and the women are to absorb all the responsibly and the costs. I don’t even know what to say. Thank you for speaking intelligently and clearly not the issue.

Tunes always help. It takes such a big man to slut shame on twitter. And to order women to close or unclose their legs, which to me, is the real issue. Men want sex on demand, when they want it. But for the political outward world, they still think that being anti-choice is the moral high ground, and so they also want others to believe that sex should happen only within marriage. yeah. right. And I use the word "think" ironically.

Emily, please keep writing and truth-telling. I'm too tired to write anything but necessary legal briefs. We will be before the SC Supreme Court soon and I am determined to remain optimistic.

Today, I am ashamed to be a male resident of South Carolina. As a professor of higher education, I feel I have failed in my calling to teach compassion and understanding toward others. But posts like yours, Emily, make me want to search for a new path forward. Thank you for your commitment to reporting, to open disclosure. We will prevail!

The Sister Senators will each get money from me, as will Emerge, and I am in Connecticut! So grateful to you for writing this - it is so important. One of the issues is how few women are in either the Senate or the House not just in SC, where it is around 18%, but many states. I follow the Rutgers Center for the Study of Women in Politics and have for years to keep abreast of this. This won’t last forever - keep pounding away!
