Thank you Emily--I am also in SC. I am so disheartened as you say "to watch the American electorate support billionaires and vote against their own self-interest on such a massive scale." I do not want to give in to despair, but continue to try and fight, inform and do what good I can. I am in the Upstate. If you know of any support groups and activist groups, (I am joining up with Indivisible as I write this), please do let folks know. Thank you for your voice.
I was born in Texas but raised in Aiken, SC, and moved back to Texas to attend Rice University and stayed in Texas. But yes, this will just put more burden on women. I am retired now, so I spendceven more time organizing than I did before, but even the “New South” is still so hard. I have been active with Indivisible Houston since 2017. It helps. Check out https://weareworthfightingfor.org/ which is many progressive groups organizing to have local meetings across the nation
Very well expressed, Emily. It’s interesting to realize how little we mean to this patriarchal culture. If we couldn’t birth their sons they’d still be burning us at the stake.
I have a tiny bit of hope for us here wedged between two swing states, and I’ve tried to console myself with a few of the brighter data points (turnout up, more candidates, better losses, etc) but it’s rough. I keep thinking about the hurricane. How utterly unprepared we were. And what happens when the next one hits.
I know I am not alone in my despair and rage and fear. I just need to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Finding solidarity with others here in the Upstate.
Thank you for putting our heartbreak, anger, and grief so eloquently into words.

What if we all went on strike?
