I didn’t watch the debate last night but what if the Democratic party wasn’t also sexist and we had, I don’t know, a highly qualified lady vice president running instead of Biden? I’ll just leave that there.
Primary election runoffs here in South Carolina confirmed that the state Republican party remains misogynist and sexist, punishing all the Republican women who blocked a total abortion ban by primarying them. Now three highly skilled, experienced legislators who were fighting for women and families in our state are out of the Senate, to be replaced with inexperienced Republican men. The percentage of women in our state government was already dismally low, but now it will mostly likely be even worse.

Locally, Jason Elliot beat Ben Carper (whew), who turns out didn’t even live in the district (Elliot, because he’s a smart lawyer, looked up Carper’s address. His campaign then hired a private detective to trail Carper, who had switched his driver’s license address to a rental property in the district, but that’s not enough to make it your primary residence, little buddy). Anyway, the point is moot because Elliot won, but that does feel a little election-fraudy to me, just sayin’.

I choked up reading
’s piece about living in Iowa, another red state, and fighting for reproductive care access. She writes when no one is fighting for us, we fight for ourselves. Same here, girl, same:
It’s a hard anniversary to mark, and to think of the people who have died, or suffered so needlessly, because of these bans. But girls and women in this country have never had equal access to the healthcare they deserve, even under Roe. The fight was there before, the fight is here now. Remember one of the most important things you can do is donate and/or volunteer with abortion funds—this is the front line. Our local funds are PSAF and CAF. Consider setting up a recurring donation, so they can most efficiently plan their budgets and allocation of resources.
The fight continues, and next month’s book club selection will help us understand how better to show up for it. We’ll read

I’ll nail down the dates, but in the meantime, order the book and let’s get started.This weekend marks the end of Pride month, and I hope it was a joyful one wherever you are. In the Upstate, turn out for the Black Pride March and Festival tomorrow, starting at 11:00. I’ll be out of town (moms’ weekend!!!!) but there in spirit. Happy weekend, all.
I guess the only solace here is, that things have to get worse before they get better. Although, for us women, I truly feel ENOUGH is ENOUGH! Nature's nature holds all the power and when large amounts of poison are mixed in repeatedly it corrodes itself.
