SC Elected Officials Yell at Protestors
Putting the Second Amendment first to prove their manhood
Last week, ahead of the No Kings protests, our South Carolina governor Henry McMaster and our state attorney general Alan Wilson (who is running for governor) send out “public safety” notices that any lawlessness or violence by the protestors would not be tolerated (so rich, coming from insurrection-supporting MAGAs).
They also posted on Facebook, and while I am usually smart enough to resist reading the comments, this time I couldn’t resist. It was truly shocking to see people chiming in and gleefully promising to mow over protestors with their cars if anyone touched their vehicles. This guy joked about shooting the protestors then burying their bodies with a backhoe:
I like how the tone of all these posts is “absentee father tries to sound stern” lol.
During the protests, which saw thousands of us come out across the state, peacefully and with no incidents (I mean, it was mostly middle-aged folks and retirees) there were almost no counter protestors, except for this one guy in Greenville that hid in the bushes with his sad tiny megaphone until the Greenville City Police asked him to leave.
In Summerville, near Charleston, sitting state senator Tom Fernandez (District 39, come on) decided he needed to troll the protestors in his dick-enhancing mobile, and either they flipped him off, or he did first, but regardless, here is an elected official so bothered with a minority of his constituents showing up to show their displeasure with our criminal administration, that he had to show up to tell them to fuck off:
This is all happening in the shadow of the murder of elected officials in Minnesota. I mean, I guess Fernandez did a better job with his response than the psychopath Mike Lee, senator from Utah, only posting the threat of violence while he cherry picks what he likes from the Founding Fathers (I bet he tots crossed out the First Amendment).
Don’t show up to his house asking for a town hall, geez.
I got a nice message myself (after going through and reporting each rapid comment that promised to meet protest with murder) calling me a very dumb bitch and to watch out if I tried to get in his way. I hope all these men get the help they need.
The Greenville rally, organized by the Greenville Progressive Coalition, was fabulous and there were over 5000 of us, including an energized contingent of young people.
My favorite sign was this one:
Tomorrow head out to Unity Heath to help them fundraise the hundreds of thousands they need to keep serving the immigrant and working class communities of the Upstate (they lost federal funding because of their commitment to addressing systematic inequality in healthcare).
While loser white men like Tom Fernandez are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on guns and souped-up trucks, we’re out here trying to help our fellow humans and build a society that cares for all people. SC Senate District 39, I’m going to need you to vote that guy out.
It was such a peaceful and hope-filled gathering.
You mentioned you hope these gleeful posters of violence get help. But I figure that most of them are nocturnal emission incels in momma's basement suffering from orange lung. And if I happened to be a miracle maker, I wouldn't waste it on those yahoos. And Holy Toledo, what a great sign! Thanks.🦩
