Mad MAGA Barbie Yells at Furman University
The good, the bad and the ugly in South Carolina politics this week
Let’s just start with the ugly. Fancy Nancy, not satisfied with berating a constituent at Ulta the other week, took to Insta to DEMAND Furman give her some answers (reader, they do not answer to her, they are not even in her district, she is dumb) about their inclusive policies protecting the rights of their students.
Nancy’s Cliff Notes version of trans exclusionary feminism=Furman is clearly attacking woman through their gender inclusive policies. It’s all so stupid I can barely write about it, but it is dangerous, and I hope Furman’s administration with their 800 million endowment behind them stands up for the rights of private schools to accommodate students as they see fit. Mace says coyly at the end of the video that she’s not governor (thank the goddesses) but if she was she would strip Furman of all of its state and federal funding. For what? For protecting their students.
We know Mace likes to abuse college students, as seen in her recent interaction at USC, so I’m sure she’s mad Furman isn’t doing the same. If you’d like to donate to WGSS at Furman in Mace’s name, I bet she’d hate it. What a waste, Nancy, you could’ve have done so much good for the state, but instead you’re using the cover of your racially gerrymandered district to be a pickme tryhard influencer on the taxpayer’s dime. She is government waste and corruption at its finest.
Now for the good. Greenville really showed up for the May Day protests, and our local NBC affiliate even covered it! Yay, local journalism! It’s important to remember that the abusive and illegal playbook the administration is following is wildly unpopular. Turns out Americans are fans of due process and funding government services.
Also good: people are beating back a lot of the garbage extremists are trying to push through in the SC Legislature as we rapidly approach the end of the season May 8th. The ACLU of SC is really at the forefront of many of these efforts, do support them if you can. It looks like paid leave for state employees is going to pass, too, even though the Freedom Caucus tried to oppose it with weak, nonsensical arguments. Recommend following our Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network (WREN) for their feminist legislative updates.
To wrap up with the bad: SC Representative John McCravy, who is such an anti-abortion zealot that even his conservative colleagues don’t want to work with him. When it became clear this session that most Republicans weren’t interested in passing more abortion restrictions to kill women, McCravy with the help of zealot extremist groups like Students for Life began harassing other Republicans, threatening to primary them like they did the Sister Senators. McCravy was probably behind harassing fellow representatives at their churches, papering their cars with anti-abortion fliers. He was also mad that women and gays get to serve on committees, calling out his fellow representatives for being too woke in their support of gays and Jews, Jason Elliot (my senator, and the first openly gay SC legislator in history) and Beth Bernstein.
Maybe just retire and yell about the gays and the Jews at home where no one can hear you, Representative?
So surprising, to hear Representative McCravy is a bigot. I thought he just hated women enough to kill them with his abortion bans. Greenwood, you deserve better.
And welcome new subscribers from SC 50501! One silver lining of all this has been watching the progressive networks in the state really light up—thanks to all the activists who have been fighting all along and laying the foundation for our fight ahead.
It blows my mind that the only way white people will vote for women is if they're batshit crazy...I remember when I thought Nikki Haley was A LOT.
Oh, geez. That Nancy Mace is a danger to women. She doesn't give a damn about us. She's just using this cruel talking point to build her cred with the worst MAGA people in the world. I could've had a Good Friday had I not seen this. Now, I'm fuming!
